Whoo-ee, 56 at 0645 this am here, a COOL ride on the scooter to work this morning! That's right, work at the hospital. We've got the "Carolina's med-1 mobile emergengy room" set up (for just the third time) in our parking lot. Same one that was used for Katrina in New Orleans-pretty cool, (if anything can be cool under the circumstances). The very first patient yesterday morning was a respiratory arrest that absolutely would not have seen today without this unit, 30 min from the next facility! Another few months and hopefully be back in the building. Sometimes a plan does come together. WP

Somewhat irresponsibly, my doctor failed to check for that. What a quack. Anyway, I'll know for sure after the ultrasound.
In the meantime, my wine glasses continue to gather dust, and I live vicariously through all of you -- so keep your notes coming!

Not really. A bruised kidney will bleed for a while and stop. Watchful waiting is not bad medicine. If bleeding persists, then it is time to be more aggressive.
Docs are in a no-win situation anymore. If they order a test and don't find anything, they are accused of escalated health care costs. If they don't order a test, they are called quacks and sued. [img]http://wines.com/ubb/mad.gif[/img] [img]http://wines.com/ubb/mad.gif[/img]

Dan,obviously have to defer to Bucko, but...if the bleeding shows as bright blood turning the water so, after this many weeks, it seems cause for concern to me. If only visible as a splash of dark red, or microscopically then perhaps no alarms sound yet. Personally, I can't see s**t on an ultrasound, (of coure, I'm not an ultrasound tech or a radiologist) but an MRI shows great soft tissue anatomy, even though kind of pricey...still working that law suit? they can pay the fee!
Hopefully as Bucko says, the bruising will soon heal on it own and the bleeding will stop. The body is an amazing thing, Some bodies way more interesting than others [img]http://wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

When I used the term "irresponsibly," I was jokingly referring to testing to see whether it wasn't blood, but rather Pinot Noir, as was playfully suggested by Wonders (and confirmed by Dr. Drew). As it is, I am lucky to have a wonderful doc who is also a close family friend, so she'll always err on the side of caution, which doesn't bother me a bit. She's pretty sure it's just a hematoma from the accident, as I had a massive purple hue (sort of the shade of a Loring Pinot Noir) and significant swelling in the kidney area, but she just wants the images to be on the safe side.
And, you're absolutely right Bucko -- I'd hate to be a doctor right now. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't in many respects. WP, it's not visibly red right now, just shows up under the 'scope, so I'm not too worried yet, although it is now a month after the accident, and I would have hoped it to be done by now. Oh well, I'll soon find out what's going on! Thanks, all, for your continued concern.

I've noticed lately Dr D that I'm having memory "short-outs" where I forget about the 1st bottle I had at lunch and open another impulsively. The cure to that, sir, is simple. Purchase two of every bottle. You store one and forward the second to me. When you forget about the first bottle call me before you open, impulsively, a second bottle and I'll describe the first bottle to you, offering sensory descriptors, there by resurrecting your memory which offers satisfaction not requiring the opening of another bottle.
