We usually see a portion of the migration, Georgie. We usually just catch the edge of it, but enough to see that it's underway. The robins have been here for a few weeks now, and when they move out, the Monarchs should appear.

Ok, life is beautiful again. It's sunny, with a perfectly beautiful blue sky, and the thermometer on my deck says 62 degrees. Where the snow has melted I see my daffodils coming up. Boy did I need this! (Didn't we all?) [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]

It actually got hot here today, at about 80F; worked up a pretty good sweat out back.

Drew if your neighbors are serious about preventing the wanton destrucion of their mailboxes by baseball bats then follow this advice.
Frontgate and a few other catalogs like that sell a steel plate mailbox that is virtually indestructible. Set a steel post in concrete and bolt this mail box to the steel post.
Baseball bats will break, a few wrists will be strained, but the mailboxes will stand.

Mike's description kind of fits my mailbox... only instead of being bolted to the steel post, my mailbox base is welded to it. But I should caution that I've been told of a potential liability problem if someone were to run into my mailbox by accident, and do major damage to their vehicle (or themselves). I use a conventional sheet-metal mailbox that is still vulnerable to kids with baseball bats; it's the 4X4's being used as tanks that my configuration is designed to stop.
I'll email Drew with a suggested configuration for his neighbors' installations.

Tedious stuff here as well.
Pear and cherry trees are trying to blind me with their blossoms. Japanese magnolias are that disgusting pink color and those damned azaleas are starting to bud. I'll never be able to whack down all the hyacinths in my yard.
And with these lightly-dressed coeds marching past my window all day, who can get any work done? Ah, I keep remembering that these lovely, healthy girls are someone's daughters, and I bravely trudge back to my labors.
The choral cacophony is starting to grow in the pre-dawn hours. Last year, I saw about 15 indigo buntings in my parents' fig tree. Now THAT was a sight.

A very cruel joke was played on us Marylanders this A.M. with serious snow activity. No accumulation, thank God, due to rain preceeding the event, but I thought I was gonna have to commit my significant other.

I just got in a few minutes ago and it was snowing to beat the band. I wouldn't mind so much if I wasn't playing hooky from school tomorrow to attend the Mets' opening day game at Shea Stadium. We are going to freeze our brownies off.

Well, this was by far the longest, coldest most disappointing day I have ever experienced. Get me a glass of Port to warm me up! Ugh! Final score Cubs 15, Mets 2. Temperature all day in the wind and shade? About 35 degrees.

Well, as I always say, "It's easy to be a Yankees fan, but it takes real stamina to be Mets fan." Although I have to say, they played so terribly yesterday that we started cheering for the Cubs and laughing at the Mets' bumbling. It was that awful.

And how bout them O's??? My wife attends every opening game with her girlfriends. 13 innings for this opener with snow to beat the band. We squeaked one out though but not after a delayed call from the ump when a fly ball got lost in the snow showers.
