hey people,
looking for any advice or knowledge on wine clubs - I looked up your past advice on the subject and it was quite interesting, yet i'm still stumped on a selecting a club. Anybody know of any articles that rate these things? I'm looking for a merlot wine club as a gift to my gf who loves merlot. Any suggestions ideas?

Hi mdwong and welcome to the board. I've personally never heard of a wine club that's exclusively merlot. The few good producers of the varietal have production pretty well allocated. The idea of most wine clubs is the tasting of the many divergent wines available and to educate palates to the pleasure of different types of grapes. There are many clubs that offer Reds only or whites only, but again i jes' 'haint heard of exclusively merlot. Good Luck.

I know the exclusively merlot would be a strecth. so i'm open to suggestions about just quality monthly clubs

A Taste of Monterey, has a Club Red (all red) that will send you two bottles of Monterey Reds each month for $32 + S&H. Additionally you can order any of their extensive inventory at any time with a club member's discount. They have a wide selection of Monterey Merlot. I also stumbled across "Club Red" at the wine exchange.

Go to: http://www.winex.com/wine_monthly_wine_programs.htm

..and check out "Insider's Club Red". While it isn't just Merlot, it is at least all Red wine.
