Back to youse big guy. We'll be grilling salmon fillet to have with potatoes, peas, and Pinot.

Spent the morning walking the entire freedom trail....all 7 miles of it and then some. Happy 4th everyone!

It had better be a domestic Pinot -- or possibly French, as they were a big help in the whole revolution thing

Hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend!

Coming from Norwegian immigrants, I never forget how fortunate I am, and the American flag proudly flies on my front porch year-round, not just today.

Actually, I'll take that back. It doesn't fly year-round. A Green Bay Packers flag flies on selected fall Sundays . . .

Back at you folks with a happy 4th. The colors are flyin' as they have 24/7 since 9/11.

Fixin' to get a fire goin' to grill cedar plank salmon. Will sip on a martoonie while cookin' then move on to a Barbaresco with the fishie. Blessings of sweet Mother Liberty to all.

A very happy 4th to all, and a special thanks to my grandparents who chose to make huge sacrifices leaving their ancestral homes to try and make a better life for themselves and us following generations here in the Land of the Free.

Just got home from work, and we'll be doing the grill up huge later. Got steak tips marinating in Italian dressing and BBQ sauce. Going to do corn on the cob two ways - half will be slathered in mayo, then sprinkled with grated Parm and cayenne pepper, wrapped in foil and grilled; the other half will be grilled in their husks, then served with butter mixed with chili powder and lime zest. Got some poblanos that I'm going to slice lengthwise, brush with EVOO and grill. Then some Vidalias sliced thickly, brushed with EVOO and grilled. Got some potatoes quartered lengthwise, parboiled, brushed with EVOO and grilled - then served with a roasted garlic oregano vinaigrette. That's about it.

No wine today - I'm shaking up some Tesoro tequila with Blue Agave nectar, lime juice and crushed ice.

Fully intended to go domestic with the salmon, but didn't have any in the cellar. So, when picking up the fish on Thursday I grabbed a bottle of Pepperwood Gove off the shelf.

It matched just fine with the dinner. Afterward I examined the bottle for technical data, such as 12.5% alcohol.

Almost illegible in pink ink on the olive colored label it said: "2007 South Eastern Australia." I thought Pepperwood Grove was an American brand in the Don Sebastiani stable. What gives?

I also thought Pepperwood Grove was domestic.

On the 4th I took a dip in the condo pool and later drove to Fort Bragg to hear Winona Judd (free concert) Also saw Golden Knights parachute in. Unfortunately, it started to sprinkle before the flag ceremony (flags of all 50 states presented), 1812 Overture (which I always enjoy) and fireworks. While they were still deciding whether event would continue, I chickened out and headed for my car because I heard some thunder and was afraid it would get worse instead of better. I guess the fireworks did go on but I watched 1812 Overture and fireworks on tv.
My other possible 4th of July plan was to watch Kevin Costner's band at Bull Durham Athletic Park in Durham (20th anniversary of the movie "Bull Durham") and the fireworks there did get rained out. Not very shabby entertainment--Winona or Kevin Costner.
