- moisesve - 07-01-2002 Hi: I am going to loose some weight. Can somebody please tell me how many calories are there in a glass of wine? Thanks - rden258 - 07-01-2002 This might not be 100% correct, but these are the numbers I saw on a webpage related to this topic. It says for a typical 5oz serving of dry red/white wine, it is approximately 125 calories. If you are drinking port, it says that the number of calories for 5oz can be as high as 225. I think the basic rule is that the higher the alcohol content, and the more the sugar, the more calories. Hope this helps. Randy - Kcwhippet - 07-01-2002 Based on a study done with data from the USDA and other public sources there is a general number available. Red wines have approximately 102 calories per 5 oz. serving, white wines have 96 and dessert wines have 130 per 3 oz. serving. These are only general numbers and, of course, can and will vary among various wines. None of the calories are from fat, but from sugar. - Thomas - 07-01-2002 ...and alcohol is a simple sugar. But you know, when I want to lose weight the last thing I cut is wine; I need it to ease my troubled appetite... - winedope1 - 07-02-2002 I'd rather skip appetizer, bread or even (gasp), dessert !! another alternative is to have just a little of most/all. |
