As you can tell by the name, I don't know anything about wine. All I know is that I like Marco Negri "Marsilio" Moscato d'Asti...it's my cheap "wal-mart wine"

What are some other wines you would recommend? I would like some more every day, inexpensive wines as well as a couple nicer wines....any suggestions?

Hi Teach, and welcome to the Wine Board. There is nothing wrong with your starting point. Not a bad wine by any means.

With the hundreds of thousands wines available, it is a little difficult to depart from your starting point.

To start in the same region for still wines you might want to check out the Gavis or Corteses for whites, or Barberas or Dolcettos for reds.

Our favorite day to day Italians are Vermentino for white, and Monteulciano d'Abruzzo for a red. The latter has a long name, but "Montes" can be found at many price points starting at the $5-$10 pp.

Though you are more than welcome to peruse the various threads on this site, I find books easier to read that computer screens.

Recommend Andrea Immer Robertson's "Wine Buying Guide for Everyone." The '08 edition will be out in a couple of weeks and can be reserved at amazon.com. These editions give detailed information on over 700 best selling wines at all price points.

You may also want to check out "Wine For Dummies" and "Italian Wines for Dummies", both by Ewing-Mulligan & McCarthy. I use the latter all the time including just now to spell out the Monte!

I'd try some inexpensive Rieslings. Look for the word Kabinett on a German Riesling, and spend a solid $10, the $6 ones won't be as good. One nice one from the U.S. is "St. M" Riesling...

Also you could try a Sauvignon Blanc for another white that is very fruity, but a good deal less sweet than your Moscato. Nobilo makes a good one, and Kenwood's is nice as well.

Your Moscato D'Asti is a nice wine. My favorite for the buck is called "Bricco Riella"

We tried the Ste. Michelle Riesling Sunday while visiting with some friends and it was very good. I am not as big a fan of whites as I am of reds because often times they are little sweet but the Ste. Michelle isn't and will be added to our rack.

Hello to all,

My first post to this forum. I hope I can recommend a wine or two. Merlots or Beaujolais are generally lighter reds. They have softer tannins. Cono Sur from chile is a nice merlot and Spier from South Africa is also a good glass of nectar. Both are quite affordable as well.
