I have just recently become intrigued with the "whole wine scene" for lack of a better description.
I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment by all the available information out there on wineries, varieties and vintage's so please excuse my ignorance, but hope to get some down to earth basics from you guys and gals. I look forward to interacting with, and learning from, all of you.

Welcome to the board! This is a good learning forum. Should we call you Maize to shorten keystrokes?

Hi there ICIM and welcome to the board.
You've started on one of the most pleasurable journeys life affords. More kicks than " Route 66 " and makes a barrel of monkeys look like sour apples. Ask any question and we'll answer, hopefully helpfully. Have Fun!!!! WW

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, Maize is quite acceptable.
My biggest challenge so far has been finding a store that has a quality selection of wines...of course, this being due to my geographical location. Any suggestions on this problem would be GREATLY appreciated...

Welcome from moi too. If you have a Costco and membership within striking distance, that is a great place for good selections and values.

Looks like the nearest Costco to you is in Greensboro NC. If they're allowed to sell wine, that would indeed be your best bet. (But given NC's wierd alcohol laws, I wouldn't bet the ranch on a NC Costco being able to sell it.)

I have found a store not toooooo far from here located in Knoxville, TN. They have a very good selection and have very courteous and knowledgeable people on staff.

That's a good start. Finding a good wine shop will go a long way. Hopefully, they have occasional tastings. If they do, be sure to take advantage of them. It's a great way to try a lot of stuff and learn. Let us know what you try and how you like it! Good luck, and again, welcome!
