Hey folks - I'm new here to the message board but had a question.
I'm getting married in a couple of weeks, and for the rehearsal dinner - we're going to open a bottle of wine my folks have had for a very long time.
It is a Magnum of a 1967 Chateau Tropelong Mondant, Sainte-Emilion, Claude Valette. The bottle has been stored in a dark, cool, climate since my parents recieved it as a gift from a friend.
Over the years, I've asked to open it from time to time - and of course they've always said, we'll wait until you're married - Well, it's time to pay the pauper - we're drinking it! (i just hope we're not drinking VINEGAR!!!)
I'm wondering what the value of a wine like this is. I've done a couple of web searches and have come up dry. To be perfectly honest, the bottle is priceless because my parents have had it for so long and it's going to be one of their gifts to us. However, once we make the toast, i'd just like to give the folks there a little insight into the wine.

Hi HH and welcome to the board. This grand Cru Classe St-Emilion is normally one of the stars from this lovely wine region. That's the good news. The bad news is that 67 was a poor vintage in Bordeaux. You have 2 things going for this wine...It's in a magnum and the wines from Tropelong are agers. Their blend of 80% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, and 10 cabernet sauvignon could have held up but don't be too dissapointed if this wine is indeed history. WW
