Could you please tell me what may be the closest thing to Rosso Di Montalcino. Preferably I would like a recommendation on a similiar Italian red wine first, but give me at least several others from anywhere else that would fit the bill also.

Well, Rosso di Montalcino is made from the Sangiovese grape. It's the same grape used to make Chianti, so one of those should fit the bill, as well other Sangiovese based wines. The Rosso is the "little brother" of the Brunello di Montalcino and is made to be drunk while young. Prices for the Rosso are usually in the $8 to $15 range and are quite afordable.

KC, I've seen quite a bit of price creep in the Rosso di Montalcino, much to my chagrine. They are more like $20-$30 these days.

I would agree with that. I picked up a Valdicava and that was close to $30....ouch..
