I have acquired a bottle of wine and I know nothing about it. Can someone please enlighten me; is it good, valuable etc...

The bottle reads:
Ferreira's Port
Dona Antonia A. Ferreira
Oporto
RESERVE
Granja, T. 1887

Hi Eric and welcome to the Wine Board. Are there any other dates or markings on the bottle front or back? Does the bottle look like it has been around for 115 years?

Thanks for your reply and for your help. I can not find any other dates on the bottle. The bottle does look old, as does the print on the label. The bottle is wrapped in a printed tissue paper that reads "Ferreira's Port" and came in a hand-made straw sheath. I can take a digital photo and share it with you if you are interested.

I'm pretty sure that's their standard non-vintage blended port. The date is when the company was founded.

I don't think tissue paper lasts that long...

I'm sure it doesn't. Many Ports and Madeiras have the date of the house's founding somewhere on the bottle. I suspect the bottle may not be more than 20 or 30 years old, but that age with uncertain storage would not enhance it's value.
