- clueless4now - 10-03-2001 I just started waiting tables and found myself somewhat at odds. The location I work at is an Italian fine dining place. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can go to get a little insight on the basics of wine so I can become familiar with the terms and lingo of the wine industry. So I can save myself some embarassment from my wine ignorance. - winoweenie - 10-03-2001 C4Now, welcome to the board. If you go back 100 days on the Novice board you'll find all the info you need. WW - clueless4now - 10-04-2001 winoweenie, thank you for the advice. I will go to the bookstore asap! - freeds - 10-20-2001 Hello clueless4now. When waiting tables please don't forget that women know a few things about wine too. Don't just direct your attention to the men at the table. Usually a woman can do the tasting for the table and order a wonderful wine and not make you feel as uncomfortable as a man. Just a suggestion. - winoweenie - 10-20-2001 Also Freeds forgot to mention they're much better looking, smell delightful, and tip like there's no income in sight. WW - Thomas - 10-21-2001 clueless, no matter the gender, the custom in a restaurant is: he/she who orders the wine is the one who gets the first sniff and taste. |
