Hello All. I am a definite novice but someone gave me a wonderful idea for an event. A Red Wine and Dark Chocolate party.
Please..suggestions for this event. I know nothing about red wine.

Hi LDA, and welcome to the Wine Board. Port is always wonderful with chocolate. If you live in an area with wine stores with significant selections, you could look for Banyuls, a sweet red from Southern France that is also excellent with chocolate. You can look at our Port & Stickies thread for ideas on specific brands and other red dessert wines.

I'd go with the previous suggestions, but would also like to add a sparkling red from Italy. Banfi Rose Regale Brachetto d'Acqui is like bubbly raspberries in a glass and goes wonderfully with chocolate. Runs about $20 a bottle and is widely available.

You can also add bold, tannic reds like Aglianico, from Italy; big Cabernet Sauvignon, from anywhere, that sort of thing. Great with chocolate.

Dananne jumped on my bandwagon. I'd been touting the Banfi Rosa Regale since trying it a year ago at a Banfi tasting. It's a sparkler that appeals to many who don't care for really dry wine including very dry Champagne. I would like to try it sometime with the chocolate-covered strawberries you can buy at chocolatiers in Charleston, SC and perhaps elsewhere. Bet it would match fabulously.

Wow,
I know this is my second post and I don't know anything about wine, however the wine and chocolate is what started the whole thing for us.
The Rosa Regale is served at Disney with the chocolate as a suggested option.
That actually gives me a good idea for dessert tonight. We have friends coming over for Easter dinner and we have a bottle ready to go. All I need to do is get some good chocolate...HMMM... I wonder if chocolate Easter bunnies go good with wine?
