About two years ago I had dinner at Bern's in Tampa. We asked the waiter to suggest a wine and he introduced us to a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford in Napa Valley cellared and bottled by SHOWN & SONS. The vintage was 1979 and it was quite good.

I have been led to understand that this winery is no longer in business, but was bought out by another winery. Does anyone know the name of the new winery/owners?

I sure would like to get some more wine from them.

Thanks very much!!

I can't recall who bought them out, but there's no guaranty that the new owners would source the same grapes and/or produce a wine that tastes even similar.

Your best bet is you make another trip to Bern's and see if you can't negotiate to purchase a few bottles from the cellar there. Bern's is noted for not marking his wines up every 15 minutes, so even with restaurant mark-up it might not be outrageous.

And P.S....1979 was a generally underrated year and one of my favorites for Napa Valley Cabernet.

Well another trip to Bern's is out of the question for a while.

I would not expect the wine from that vineyard to be the same as the '79 we had. However, if a vineyard can produce a good wine one year, the possibility exists that it could produce a good wine some other year.

I just thought it might be fun to try to find out who bought out Shown and Sons so I could sample thier current product.

I certainly would greatly appreciate a reply from someone who might know who bought the winery.
