Is there a sweet red wine?

- Karena Shannon - 08-09-1999

Yes, many red wines have some degree of sweetness to them. Unless the wine is a dessert wine, usually, either it's considered a flaw, or indicative of being a "jug wine".
With that in mind, many of the finest red wines in the world are naturally sweet eg: Vintage Port, certain late harvest Zinfandels...
Hope this helped,

I tasted an unusual sweet red quite recently: Mavrodaphne aus Patras, from Greece. It had a rich prune nose and palate, and a lingering, sticky finish. Quite toothsome!
