Two great wines that I thought were amazing that I recently tried were:

Apollonio Terragnolo Primitivo '98 - absolutely delicious. what a steal for $10 for this 90 RP point wine.

Saintsbury Pinot Noir Garnet Carneros was really nice as well. Had the destinctive Pinot damp earth smell and was not overly oaky.

My biggest disappointment of recent weeks was the Oregon pinot noir from King Estate. It was a like watered down wine.

If you liked the Appolonio Primitivo, try their Copertino. Dazzling little wine.

What King Estate did you have? I have had some pretty decent wines from them.

it was the King Estate Pinot Noir. Forget the vintage, but I think it was 99 or 00.

It was so mild for pinot and thin. Not very fruity although it was smooth.

Do you have any recommendations other than Dehlinger (which I can't find, or afford on a regular basis) or Rocchioli when it comes to Pinot Noir?

I posted recently on the Argyle, Willamette Valley (Oregon) pinot noir I liked. While the reserve or specific-vineyard wines from Argyle are expensive, this regular one is reasonably priced and quite fruity.

Hi winecellarboy. I've enjoyed a few nice pinots lately. Rex Hill '99 $24, Adelsheim '99 and '00 $20, Benton Lane '99 $15, Cambria Julia's Vineyard '98 $22, Steele '99 $21. In the under $20 category, besides the Benton Lane, I've had hit or miss luck with Erath -- loved the '99, hated the '00.
