kept hearing a lot of you rave about the Bonny Doon Muskat Vin De Glaciere, so I had to go out and buy it. Didn't realize it was going to be so expensive. I payed (after tax) $20.56
Was this reasonable, or did I get ripped off?
Bought it at Central Market here in Austin.

Also, I can enjoy it to it's fullest by itself, correct? or should I run out and buy a dessert to go with it?

Thanks for the answers.

Duane, the wine is a dessert in itself. The price is mid-range. I've seen it as cheap as $16, as high as $23.

well I popped it the night I got it, and didn't really care for it. There was a wierd stong flavor I didn't care for. Don't know exactly what to call it.... maybe rotten fruit.
Anyway. After the first glass, I re-corked it and put it in the fridge. Two days later, I open it again for another shot at it, and I think it's quite good. Interesting.

now... I've never really been able to give much of an analysis on any wine becuase my taste buds aren't very developed yet, so I've been embarrrased to give you my thoughts on wines so far... but with this one, I think I can pick out a flavor and name it.... I'm tasting over-ripened pears. Do any of you get this too.. I hope so. It would make me feel better. Let me know if I'm tasting what I'm supposed to be tasting. Thanks!

The strong flavor you encountered is called the Muscat grape. Muscat has a really pungent orange and spice flavor to it. Its one of them love 'em or leave 'em grapes. About the only way I can enjoy muscat is in a Moscato d'Asti or in a lighter muscat de beaumes venise. You would probably like the moscato d'asti since you said you liked the Muscat after a couple of days... the added days of airation probably killed the power of the muscat.

Moscato is the Italian version of Muscat. Moscato d'asti is semi sparkling and very enjoyable and dirt cheap (about 10 bones).

Electra(orange)Muscat is very good. I have also enjoyed R. Mondavi moscato. WD
