- Izzy - 01-17-2008 Just a quick question...in doing some research on the Albarino grape (drinking as much as I can!)I have only found so far that Albarino is produced in Spain. I read where there is great potential for Austrailia to produce Albarino. Knowing that you can't believe everything you read on the internet, I thought I'd ask if anybody has actually seen, purchased or tasted Albarinos from anywhere else than Spain. - Kcwhippet - 01-18-2008 Don't know about Australia, but you can get Alvarinho from Portugal - same grape. There are also Albarino wines available from Virginia, Oregon and California. - hotwine - 01-18-2008 Just checked Spec's on-line.... they have a substantial inventory of Aussie wines but no Albarino listed. - Izzy - 01-24-2008 Kc, thanks for the information on Virginia, Oregon and California. I'll definitely have to check that out! By the way, I have had Alvarinho. It's a bit lighter and a little effervescent. Nice, but light. hotwine, thanks for the info on Australia. - Bucko - 01-24-2008 Wineries using Albarino grapes to make wine in Australia include: Bago Vineyards Hastings River Brown Brothers King Valley Centennial Vineyards Southern Highlands Dunn's Creek Winery Mornington Peninsula Eumundi Winery Queensland Coastal First Drop Barossa Valley Gracebrook Vineyards King Valley Irvine Eden Valley Mansfield Wines Mudgee Omersown Wines Riverland Rusty Fig Wines South Coast Zone Stockman's Ridge Central Ranges Zone Symphonia King Valley Tscharke Barossa Valley Tuck's Ridge Mornington Peninsula Wombats Run King Valley - hotwine - 01-24-2008 So, Buckster, the Aussies use it as a blending grape? |
