I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on these wines, but more specifically, when you'd open them. Wine Enthusiast claims '00 Pomerols and Medocs need to be held a few more years, but I know these aren't Premier Crus or anything, and thought they might hit their prime earlier? Same scenerio with the '02-'03 Burgundies.

Louis Latour Volnay en Chevret 1er Cru '02

These wines are sitting in my Danby which, sadly, maxes out at around 49 F for some reason. I have no problem waiting a while, but would also love to drink them earlier if they're ready. Thank you!

Andy I'm in agreement with the 9-10 year window. If you have several, the Pomerols would be more likely to drink well young. Have no idea on the Burgs as they're not in my realm. WW

Determining the optimum drinking period is always tricky. Volnay tends to come across as a softer (more alluring?) wine than some Burgundies and the 2002 might be ready to go or even starting to close down (to reopen around 2010). The Savigny Les Beaunes might be enjoyable now also or better in 2009. It's difficult to say and I wouldn't want to bear responsibility for misleading you.

Okay, looks like I'll wait for a while. I thought especially the Larose-Trintandon, since I paid about $17 for it a year ago, might not be built like the general bords and be ready to drink sooner? Also, before I got the Danby last season the Larose-Trintandon as well as the Girardin were in a basement closet during the summer that probably hit the upper 70's for a good while during that bad heat spell--I figure there's a chance that was enough to cook my burg anyway.
Don't eschew responsibility WOW--I wouldn't take it out of your hide or anything...
