Hi!
I've been invited to a Thanksgiving dinner and I was thinking of carrying a bottle of wine for my hosts.
PLease help me choose a wine that would be appropriate for the occasion and doesn't cost over $35.

Hi Wine Life and welcome to the board. I personally like Nouveau Boujalais which will probably be out in time for Thanksgiving. Alsace Gewurtztraimainer are also delicious in the white s. I'm partial to Georges Duboeufs' Nouveaus. Ask your favorite wine shop for help. WW

Choice of a wine to serve with turkey is driven by the way the bird's prepared in our house - if oven-roasted, we like a German Riesling, especially a Mosel-Sahr-Ruwer. But if smoked, a Pinot Noir or even a Zin works well. She's not informed me yet which we'll make this year... but if we don't get this confounded kitchen remodel finished, it may be reservations...

Another thing... which is a better choice... Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, besides Reisling?

Neither with turkey, IMO.

You've got the "cranberry sauce principle" in effect here, and as hotwine says, Cab and Merlot definitely don't go. If you don't like the Zin, Beaujolais, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer or Riesling choices, maybe you might want to try a dry Chenin Blanc. My personal choice is always Zin or maybe Pinot Noir.
