I was looking in my basement to see what needs to be consumed sooner rather than later and found two bottles that I am wondering I let them sit too long. Both are 2002 whites. The first one is Tin Roof Sauvignon Blanc and the second is Big House White. Have they fallen off a cliff yet or do they just need to be opened right away? I kept them in the basement of my house in a closet under the stairs, so they have been in a cool, dark area and they are screw top caps.

Thanks.

They should be OK. The best way to find out, of course, is to just open them up.

In my humble opinion, both are on the downslope and have likely lost a good deal of fruit. They'll likely be drinkable, but they would have been better a few years ago. For example, the last '02 Big House White we had was in '05, and it already seemed a year too late. My advice is to crack 'em as soon as possible and clear the space for stuff from '06. By all means, though, I'd love to hear your thoughts when you do get around to twisting those caps. I'd like to know whether the Big House in particular had any life left.

KC beat me to the punch due to my slow typing

Thanks for the input. I'll try one tonight. I just have to figure out what I'll make for dinner with it now.
