Hi,
I'm not much of a wine fanatic but I do like to drink from time to time and I sometimes I wish I was gifted with the ability to distinguish wines by the taste and smell. I guess many would like to be gifted with that talent as well.
Anyways, I think I remember the first time I ever drank wine was when I was about 13-14 years old. It was during a family dinner and my parents had encouraged my to take a sip. I've never regretted it.
Last night I got myself thinking about things. I've just turned 18 exactly two months ago from today and I never really got a present. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what would be a great wine to get that dates all the way back to 1988, my birth year, and, if possible, as close to my birtmonth (August). I figured it would be a great present from myself TO my own self, and perhaps cherish it on a very special day in the future. It doesn't matter where it comes from, but could any one also please tell me it's details as to where I could purchase it and how much it would cost? and if anyone would be gracious enough to fill me in with it's background, how/where it was made, why it's a special wine, if it is, and etc.
This may all seem quite a lot to ask, but it is something I would also truely appreciate. I don't drink alcohol much - for presonal reasons. Wine and champaigne are the only alcoholic drinks I take in.

Hi Mwilliams, and welcome to the Wine Board. The best choice both in terms of survivablity and availability would be a Vintage Port. The bad news is that '88 didn't qualifiy. '87 did, and if you don't mind being off a year, might be a good choice.

Go to wine-searcher.com Enter Vintage Porto 1987, and select your country and currancy. There are some selections there. Expect to pay from 100 to 200 Pounds.
