I have the opposite problem as Serengeti. Due to my husband's military transfer, I have moved to Oceanside, CA from Pensacola, FL! I'm glad to finally have wines available to be shipped to me. (Being in a wine club is difficult when living in FL, because I found that nobody wants to ship to FL!)

Though I'm originally from CA, I moved away when I turned 18, so I really don't know the area. I'm living 1/2 way between San Diego and L.A. I'm looking for ways to become more experienced in wine: going to wine festivals, visiting wineries, buying at good wine shops, etc. Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I'm not sure how to find wine festivals in my area. The billboards say that Temecula is "Wine Country", so I think it's a place I'd like to visit, but I'm not even sure where I'd go once I got to Temecula!!! EEK!

Also, I remember that somebody on here is the owner of a REALLY cool wine shop/warehouse-type-place, but I'm forgetting who it is and where it's at. Can anybody refresh my memory? It sounded like a great place to go to buy wine, but at the time I didn't think we'd be getting stationed in CA so I didn't pay much attention.

I'd appreciate any help from you guys. You've really been helpful to me in learning more about wine (I'm almost done with Wine For Dummies!), and you've been very patient with my questions!!!

Hi LB and welcome back to Calif. I think the wine shop you're talking about is Wine Expo in Santa Monica run by no other than Raucus Roberto. Their wats line is 800 WINEEXPO. Two other wine shops you should visit are Vintage Wines in San Diego. Go down 5 to 805 turn on Miramar rd. and go about 5 miles east.Phone is 858-549-2112. The other great wine shop easily accessible is Hi Time Cellars in Costa Mesa. No on 5 to the 405 , then off at the 55 to CM. Call 800-331-3005 for detailed directions as I just point the ole' truck and him goes. As far as Temucula, when you get there stop at any gas station. They can direct you. I stay in Carlsbad when I go to SD. The Vera Cruz Fish House in downtown is a killer fishie jernt. WW

So you're now in CA LB! We plan to hit Temecula for a couple of days at the end of our LA trip next month. Is there a Navy Lodge in your area? Incidentally there is a lot of information on Temecula if you search this board, and www.winelovers.com

My oldest nephew works in Temecula and I may have a couple brochures about area wineries at home. I will look for them in the next couple days. If I still have them I will ask you to e-mail me your address, LB, and will send them to you snail mail.

WW, Yep, Roberto was the one I was thinking of! Thanks for all that info. I will be sure to try out those stores, and the restaurant in Carlsbad! What do you recommend at the restaurant? Or is everything good?!

IK, Yes, there's a Navy Lodge at Camp Pendleton. Since we've only lived here for a few weeks, I don't where it is, but if you e-mail me (lizardbrains_99@yahoo.com), I can get you the ph. # if you like!

WoW, I would love some brochures about the area. Let me know if you are able to get any!

I'm so glad to be back in wine country! We came here for our honeymoon, but I wasn't 21 at the time, so we didn't do the winery-thing. But, we're back! And I'm going to take advantage of it!
