My husband and I are having a Super Bowl Party. Most of the men will be drinking beer, but a lot of the ladies (like me) won't. What would be a couple of good wines for this event? We're having finger foods, i.e. hot wings, dips & chips, cheese ball...stuff like that. Thanks in advance!!!

We always do meat ball sandwiches for the Super Bowl. We make our own sour dough baguettes. We make special meat balls with a mixture of ground beef, veal, and pork, eggs, bread crumbs, and seasoning. They are browned in olive oil, and "slow cooked" with our Italian Tomato Sauce recently posted elsewhere. The sandwiches are sprinkled with freshly grated Pecorino Romano. And we wash them down with-----------BEER!!!

Since you won't or can't do that, here are some suggestions. For a nice white you should be able to find a lovely gewurtztraminer from Alsace in the $12 range. For a red, pick up some of that sensational under $10 shiraz from OZ. McGuigan in my favorite of that genre. If not drinking American on this All American holiday bothers you, there are American substitutes which may run less for the gewurtz or more for the syrah/shiraz.
