- ericj - 01-26-2003 Is there anyone out there who can help figure out what this is. I recieved this bottle about 5yrs ago, I just need to know what I have. On the bottle it written MALTESERKREUZ AQUAVIT SEIT 1924 NACH ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED... I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE IN ADVANCE FOR THEIR HELP - winoweenie - 01-26-2003 Hi Ericj and welcome to the board. I think you have a bottle of old Aquivit, the Sweedish national drink. Will warm you from your head rite down to your toenails. As far as value, have NEVER seen it on the secondaty market, and not even sure if aging in the bottle is part of its' deal. Every time I've had any dealings with this liquor I've come in a sorry second. WW - wondersofwine - 01-27-2003 Should have a licorice flavor. - chittychattykathy - 01-28-2003 AQUAVIT?= "water of life". It tastes like Vodka with caraway in it, which is basically what it is. I think that the date is when they started making it, not the age. But then, I'm not a Swede! Skäl! Kat - Kcwhippet - 01-28-2003 OK - here's the reply I gave under the German folder. It's a bottle of Aquavit made by the Danske Spiritfabrikker Berlin company, in Berlin, Germany. Malteserkreusz is the brand name and it translates as Maltese Cross. They've been making it for over 75 years, even during WWII. The aquavit inside is 86 proof, and if you're looking for some sort of value, don't bother. They produce hundreds of thousands of bottles a year, and have been for years. - Jackie - 01-28-2003 The words "SEIT 1924 NACH" translate to "Since 1924 on". |
