I'm quite a novice to wine and have a friend coming in for the weekend. When I asked my friend what kind of wine he would like, he told me Greek White Wine. I'm not sure what kind to buy, is there a certain brand that is better than the others? I am going to be buying my wine from a grocery store with an impressive selection of wines, I need help!

Hi Eveninglightwriter and welcome to the Wine Board.
You might look for one from Santorini. They are our favorite whites from Greece and are fairly widely distributed. Can't give a specific brand off the top of my head, but they probably won't have it anyway! Go with any one you can find.

It's a bit difficult to make a recommendation without knowing what white Greek wines your supermarket carries. That said, one white I like is the Cambas Mantinia made from the Moschofilero grape. It's very aromatic with hints of violets and is quite crisp with a spicy character. I also like Assyrtiko and Athiri whites from Santorini, as well as the Vilanas from Crete. Of course, there's always Retsina, made by adding pine resin to white wine. That one's really an acquired taste.

I will be stunned if you find Greek White in a grocery store and if all they have is Retsina don't buy it!! KC said it's an acquired taste, which is true, and most people haven't acquired it!
I would go to a wine shop or better liquor store.
One of my favorite whites is Moschofelero (mosk-o-feel-er-o) which sometimes is called Mantania after the place its grown.
