What wines are dry or sweet? Or are both red and white wines both dry and sweet? Is there a way to tell whether a wine is red or white, dry or sweet by the name?

Hi Mannie!

Welcome to the wineboard.

That's a lot of questions. Many times you can tell if a wine is red or white by looking at it.

The top 10 wines are:

Chardonnay - White

Sauvignon Blanc - White

Pinot Grigio - White

Riesling - White

Cabernet - Red

Merlot - Red

Pinot Noir - Red

Shiraz/Syrah - Red

Bordeaux - Blend of Red Grapes

Burgundy Red - Pinot Noir

Bordeaux Blanc - Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon

Burgundy White - Chardonnay

Truthfully - I would suggest that you get the book "Wine for Dummies" or "Great Wines made Simple". They should help you a lot.

Sweet white = Riesling from Germany or White Zinfandel
