Just wondered, what are any of your favourite bottles in your collections, or wines you are waiting for that special occasion for? I am just starting out and was just curious?

Hi Doc and a belated welcome to the board. To be concise and accurate EVEREY bottle in my cellar shares the same enthusiasm and anticipation or it wouldn't be there. I've been collecting and drinking for 34 years so I pretty well have my taste focused. I appreciate a 10 buck bottle of Cline zinfandel as much as a 100 dollar bottle of Phelps Insignia but for different reasons. Guess what I'm trying to impart is never buy a wine just to buy it, make its' prescence in your cellar important for a specific occassion. WW

Hi DoC. I love 'em all but, FWIW, my favorites are:
1)'98 Dom. Le Couroulu Vacqueyras Cuvee Classique(what's left from a gift case);
2) '00 Tomassi Rafael Valpolicella Classico Superiore;
3)'00 Bommarito Cab. Sauv. (Napa Valley).
4)'98 Badiolo Chianti Classico Riserva.
There is also a regional meritage called Triumph (Cape Cod)that I like that isn't available outside New England. I only have one of those left and then ...gone.I imagine these may be considered rather unsophisticated by the experts, but to me they are terrific everyday, inexpensive drinkers that I really enjoy. I also like Ch. Reynella Tawny Port for dessert(Oz).
No special occasion other than the moment needed for me to open any particular bottle.I do not collect except to consume. I hope you enjoy your excursion into the world of wine ! Lots to learn and have fun with.

One of my favorite bottles in my collection is Domaine A.F. Gros Vosne-Romanee Aux Reas Pinot Noir. Just gorgeous!
I'm also a big fan of blended wines. Byron's IO for a feminine style and Estancia Meritage for more of masculine style.
There is also another "boutique" wine out there called Maximus from Bennett Lane that is extraordinary!
There just too many that are my favorites. It just depends on the mood I'm in!

One that we're looking forward to that ages out this year is an 1989 Val di Suga, Brunello di Montalcino. This is a journeyman producer of Brunello, but we enjoyed theirs at fifteen years in many previous vintages over the years.
