Hello people,

Chinese New year is just 4 days away. I will be having a gathering with my friends. I would like to know what reds or whites would go nicely with chinese food.

Happy Chinese New year to all in advance. May all of you have a prosperous year

Just an interesting tidbit for you...

My friend (from France) got a job with a French wine retailer. The goal? To go to China, and market their French white wines. Why? China's color for death/funerals is white. So, China does not consume much white wine. My friend and her boss went to China specifically to show people that white wine IS good, isn't morbid, etc.

So, I would suggest that most Chinese people drink red wine.

Gewurztraminer (white, mainly from Alsace, France) is the classic choice to match chinese, thai, or indian.

A good introduction to the varietal is the Trimbach from Alsace, around $15.

Good luck!
