- skinny4 - 08-30-2006 Does anyone have any opinions on these wines? Thanks. 2001 - Clos du Marquis, St Julien 2002 - Chateau Pontet Canet, Pauillac 2002 - Liebich Wein Cabernet Sauvignon - hotwine - 08-30-2006 I've not tried one of those, but have the Pontet Canet in the cellar... it's available at a good price so would probably add to stock; but don't plan to try one for another year or so. As for the '01 St Julien.... the '01s I've tried from other houses have been excellent, but not familiar at all with the Clos du Marquis. Not familiar with the Liebich Wein Cab. - TheEngineer - 08-30-2006 Welcome to the board. Some information from a beginner...so please forgive any errors. Clos du Marquis is the second wine of Leoville Las Cases which is a very well respected Second Growth. As such, in general, they are more approachable earlier than other bordeaux's first wines and 2001 was a pretty good vintage. Here is some information http://www.wine-journal.com/leolascases.html Pontet Canet is a rejuvenated fifth growth who has produced very solid wines over the last decade. It is generally thought to be a very good value for the quality. I've not had the '02 but their 1996 and 2000 I liked very much. Here is some additional information. http://www.wine-journal.com/pontet.html I have not heard of the last one [This message has been edited by TheEngineer (edited 08-30-2006).] - hotwine - 08-31-2006 Whoops.... just checked the cellarbook (or what passes for one these days, a Word file, after the DB crash of last year). I have Les Hauts de Pontet-Canet, the '03. Different animal. WW - Kcwhippet - 08-31-2006 The mind is the second thing to go. Looks like it's that time!! - scanlon - 09-25-2006 Hi there Liebich is a tiny boutique vineyard in the Barossa, and is famous for its reds and fortifieds. I'm lucky enough to know the winemaker's daughter so I'm treated to their wines quite a bit! The 2002 Liebich Lofty Cab Sav had excellent reviews, so I'll just quote a few of them. Winemaker's notes: Exhibits deep dark violet, blackbery fruit nuances, intensified and enhanced by the extremely low yield of 3/4 tonne per acre, the late picking (15.5 baume) and one of the best seasons ever. Maturation for 10 months in various aged frech oak. Tasting Notes: Displaying pungent violet fruit aromas with classic cabernet undertones. Nevers oak maturation in barrels of various ages. Alcohol: 15.4%. Cellar: Drinking well now, but rewarding if cellared for 5 to 10 years. Awards: 2004 Barossa Wine Show: Bronze Australian Small Winemakers 2004, Bronze Robert Parker: 91 pts Winestate Magazine: four and a half stars (2004 best of year) [This message has been edited by scanlon (edited 09-25-2006).] |
