First time on BB - I'm a complete novice but hey, gotta start somewhere. Just returned from the Rhone valley on hols - at last I could taste some of the reds which are ridiculously overpriced back in Ireland!!! Anyway, could someone out there recommend some "soft velvety" easy drinking reds - anything on the dry side I tend to avoid and dislike. We usually drink Rosemount Estate Shiraz etc and often Chilean Merlots for example. Any ideas please??

Welcome to the board. Come back often. Paringa Shiraz is another likable Australian wine at a reasonable price (at least in USA). Have you tried Beaujolais wines? You might look for Beaujolais-Villages or a Beaujolais cru (Fleurie or Moulin a Vent perhaps). I find some Italian reds easy going such as Lambrusco, Valpolicella, and Dolcetta.
