Hi,,I need some advice on wine paring with Chili, keeping in mind I need something fairly inexpensive. It is chili after all...LOL! I am serving a simple menu of chili, corn on the cob and country cornbread, with apple pie for dessert.

My best suggestion is the obvious one, a cervesa in an iced mug.

- newsguy - 10-22-2004

have to agree; i wouldn't serve anything other than beer with chili. if your heart's set on a wine pairing, though, i've found that a chianti does surprisingly well with traditional mexican/southwest spices.

Beer's the only real choice - Negra Modelo does really great with chili.

I, too, usually do beer with chili, but when I do wine it's either a fruity Cru Beaujolais or a spicy red, like a Zinfandel.

I'll second the Zin idea. Seghesio would be good.

Bunch of woosies! With chili you need a bad-arse Petite Sirah.

Thanks so much to all of you!,,I have a few to choose from now. But,,Can someone tell me a little about Petite Sirah?

- winoweenie - 10-23-2004

Hi SS. I'll tell you about Petite Sirah iff'n youse tell me where in Okla you live. Petite Sirah is a varietal that makes very large, robust, and sometimes overbearing wines. Some of the better producers are Bogle and Cline in the lower priced (under 15) and Markham and Novy in the medium price point.(under 25) and Rosenblum and Switchback Ridge in the higher end. WW
