Hello all - I am quite new at this! Several of my friends and I have enjoyed discovering champagne and sparkling wines, however we know very little about them. I have been toying around with the idea of hosting a tasting at my house, but really don't know where to begin. It has been recommended to me that I have a variety, including champagne, prosecco and cava but I have no idea where to begin. I appreciate any and all advice as to selections as well as protocol. Thank you...

Hi Grace and welcome to the Wine Board. At a tasting you don't need to have more than six wines. In the case of sparklers you don't have to shell out for Champagne unless you really want to.

You might go with three Italian sparkees including Prosecco of different levels of sweetness. Do the same thing with Cavas getting a Ultra Brut, a Brut, and an Extra Dry. Tast them all from dry to sweet. Your retailer should be able to tell you how to line them up.

Keep the food bland. Lots of bread, mild cheeses, and salt free crackers.
