Hello,
I'm new to the site and have only really posted a few topics. I've just kind of been reading a lot of the posts to get a feel for the typs of wine people like and the questions they have. I'm a wine lover at heart and have a modest collection but I'm curious...I typically but best buy wines (I guess I'm thrifty or/uh cheap?). I know there are a ton of great wines out there under $20, my collection proves it. I would like to buy a couple bottles of really nice, more expensive wine but I'm not sure what to buy. I love Cabs and Shiraz. Any suggestions???

I am not a wine genious by any stretch but I can give you a few of my favorites in the over 20 range.

Duckhorn Cab $65
Chappellet cab $46
Schweiger Vineyards cab $40
Peju Province Cab $40
BV Rutherford Cab $25

Well thats all i can remember now and sorry im not a huge fan of shiraz.

Why not buy a nice aged Bordeaux? They can start at about $20 and go up from there.

It's a blend of Cabernet and Merlot, with a little Cabernet Franc. Good ones (and most are good) are really full bodied and complex, and can be even better than a good Napa Cab.

Thought about that after the post...

Hey blue, you know your way around here. Peruse the Cabernet, Bordeaux, Australia et al, and Rhone-South France threads. There is a ton of info there. Our more responsible members include prices in their tasting notes (TNs).
