I think I had one last night. Nose of nothing but musty old wood. Some of the same on the palate, but also some regular wine flavors as well.

The late great Mr. Mead had a deal where you could send off for a sample of the chemical suitable for corking a bottle for educational purposes. I never got around to doing it, but now I'd like to get a definitive taste of what a corked bottle tastes like. I'm getting tired of suspecting but not knowing for sure whether I'm tasting a corked bottle.

Does anyone know if that option or something like it is still available.

If the kits are still available Jim Wallace would be the one to talk with. Funny, I had my first corked bottle in over 8 years out of my cellar. Was a 96 Souverain Cab . You hit one of the properties on the head. Woody, wet cardboard, skunky nose are all the marvelous aromas and tastes you get from them bad dudes. WW
