- scarletantonia - 01-29-2008 so, i have a recipe for pork chops. it calls for port wine in the sauce. if i didn't have time to go back to the store, what would be a good substitute? - Innkeeper - 01-29-2008 Welcome to the board Scarlet. If you have another fortified winen such as Madeira or Sherry, go with that. Otherwise any red wine you can spare. - mapsokardu - 02-07-2008 I've always leaned toward port and sherry for cooking wines. But like the previous entry stated, any fortified wine will do.
