- thc001 - 12-23-2000 I Have one Case 1981 Silver Oak Cellars Napa Valley Lists for $1800.00 direct from Vineyard.I can be reached at:thc001@hotmail.com [This message has been edited by thc001 (edited 12-24-2000).] [This message has been edited by thc001 (edited 12-24-2000).] - Botafogo - 12-23-2000 This is a joke, right???? - thc001 - 12-24-2000 No Joke sorry should have been more clear $1800.00 a bottle. - Bucko - 12-24-2000 Not a joke, Roberto -- someone on Winebid.com will pay $1500-1800.00 for the stuff. Since it was aged in 100% new American oak, it has nothing but pickle barrel flavors flavors left. It is nothing that I would buy for sure..... Bucko - winoweenie - 12-24-2000 Heck Fire Bucks and Boto, I passed on the stuff at issue because the vintage (along with 82 & 83) was a dog. This wine stands NO chance of being worth more than 5-bucks a bottle curiosity. IF someone on Wine-Bid.com paid 1800 a case for this dreck, I`ll break my long-standing policy of not selling wine from my cellar. SEND THAT SUCKER TO THE WEENIE!! winoweenie - Bucko - 12-24-2000 Yep, 1981 was a pretty dismal vintage -- my Monte Bellos were dead years ago. I'm not saying the wine is worth $1800 a case, I'm just quoting hammer prices. You know the old adage about a fool and their money.... I'll disagree with you a bit on the 1982 vintage though. The 82 BV Georges was a lovely CA Cab -- went through two cases of the stuff. 83 was dismal as well -- ver hard wines, but Montelena was very good for the first 5 years, then it fell apart as well. Bucko Bucko - Drew - 12-24-2000 $1800 a Case???? He's asking $1800 per bottle. The closest I could find for Silver Oak around his asking price was their 83' Bonny's Cab at $1600 for a 5L. Must be some new drug he's taking. Drew - winoweenie - 12-25-2000 Drew, He`s from Las Vegas. Nuff Said. WW And Bucko, I`m not implying some good wines weren`t made in 81-82-83. I just bought the few I had to to keep verticles going and they were drunk much earlier than usual. - Botafogo - 12-25-2000 Maybe this deserves a new topic but what is up with the whole concept of "keeping a vertical going"???? I don't buy bad records from musicians I like and I see no justification for having something just to have it. The only thing I could see is if you are on some mailing list and they will 86 you if you don't buy their wine but I wouldn't do business with folks like that either...... Roberto - thc001 - 12-25-2000 Ok guys follow this link & check 1981 Bonny's Vineyard. http://www.silveroak.com/wineries/nvprice.html - RAD - 12-25-2000 The price quoted on the website is for one 5-liter bottle, not standard 750ml bottles. RAD - winoweenie - 12-26-2000 Boto, the aforementioned were mailing list wines. As you know, I`m more forgiving, tolerant, non-vindictive, hansomeOOPS! than youse` so I do occassionally buy wines to keep my membership in the club. The ones I buy and really don`t want to drink are traded at a profit so no harms done. WW By-theBy, what does this have to do regarding the absurbed offer that prompted this thread? Another mis-informed Novice. [This message has been edited by winoweenie (edited 12-26-2000).] - thc001 - 12-27-2000 All Bottles SOLD @1500.00 per bottle. So who's calling who a novice!!! OH, ya I never stated which size bottles I had. - RAD - 12-28-2000 I've never heard of a "case" of 5-liter bottles, but... Guys, if this is true, and even if this guy is a novice, this sounds a bit like what happened in my business--stocks--a couple of years ago. "Professionals" started to get mighty perturbed when novices started beating them at their own game. But then again, you can't drink a stock, and that's what we do here, right? Drink! RAD - winoweenie - 12-28-2000 thc001, coming from the state rite below Missouri,( Ok.), I`ve absorbed some of there " Show-Me " instincts. I`d love to see a copy of the cancelled checks. winoweenie - 4 Seasons - 01-06-2001 I hate to get invloved in this discussion since it seems so animated - but I just recently sold 2 bottles of Silver Oak - mid 90's vintages (would have to look the exact vintages up) One was a 5L and the other a 6L (might have been 2 5L)? for 3750.00 for the both - and the guy paid for shipping and tax to boot. Best sale of the year. and if anyone really questions the sale I can provide proof it was a CC transaction not a check. - chittychattykathy - 01-06-2001 What's that old saying??? Oh yeah, "A fool and his money..." - barnesy - 01-06-2001 for $3750 i could buy.... 26 cases of good beaujolais or 8 cases of good burgundy or 15 cases of Rosemount GSM or or or or.... Well, you all get the point Barnesy - mrdutton - 01-06-2001 I don't spend 3750 a year for wine and I buy by the case lot all the time......... Although I do buy a bottle or two every now and then that costs more than $10.00....... (Like Cline ..... or Burgess or Raymond...) You'll never hear from me that I bought one for hundreds or thousands of dollars..... No way! As WW (I think) said, "all that wine, so little time......".
