My wife and I have been drinking Chardonnay for several years now. We enjoy Kenwood, Sonoma Cutrer and I think we tried and enjoyed something simmilar to Boar's Head (?).

I would like to start exploring red wines. What has kept me from this in the past is the typical complaint: headaches. What I am looking for are some recommendations on red wines that are comparable in quality to what I have mentioned above. I am willing to pay more, if necessary, to get red wines that will not cause me headaches.

Thank you for your help.

Kenwood makes a fine Sonoma Cab named Jack London that I find top notch. You mite also try some of the Merlots from Chile or the Malbecs from Argentina. They are both rather on the inexpensive side. Our good resident Dr. Randy Buckner has posted several times on the headache problem. If my memory serves he stated taking an anti-histamine tablet before imbibing could soplve the problem. Good luck. WW

Try Australian shiraz perhaps.

Contact your local wine stores for tastings as they often have new releases to sample and this may give you an idea.

Look for fruit sweetness and balance in your wine rather than residual sugary sweetness, sharp acidity and alcohol.
