I am definitely a novice when it comes to wine. Due to budget constraints, the wines I typically buy are in the under $15.00 range (often uner $10.00). I appreciate both reds and whites, but mostly buy reds.
I recently tasted wine in a Riedel Vinum glass, and could definitely taste the difference. I would like to purchase a few good wine glasses, but wonder if there is a (Reidel) glass shape and style that can be used for most wines.I would prefer to purchase a wine glass that can be used for several types of wine (or at the most, two different glass shapes). Is that possible? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If you must have Riedel go for the Bordeaux style as I think it fits most reds, I even drink my Pinots out of that style and I have plenty of Burgundy style [img]http://wines.com/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]. I would stay away from the hand blown Riedel, Sommalier series, as they're very, very fragile and at $60+ a stem that's a lot of fragile. Hunt down a Tuesday Morning store, lots of bargans on fine wine glasses.

Welcome to the board. That's good advice from Drew. Also suggest you check at World Market, if you have one of those stores near you.... I bought four nice Bordeaux-style stems there last week at $6.99 each. Can't recall the country of origin. Make sure the glasses you buy don't have a rolled rim, but are of the "rimless" type.... that rolled rim that so many cheap glasses have is to be avoided.

If you are near an outlet mall that has a Villeroy & Boch, go there. They often have wine glasses on sale at around $6 that are very good for the price (i use the burgundy ones all the time for the price...6 was about the same cost as 1.5 riedel vinum burgs. Also look at amazon.com occasionally and people find sales on other brands such as Schott, Nachmann (which I like a lot too).

If you have a target near you or possibly go on their website they sell a cheaper version of Reidel glasses. They are made by Reidel.They retail around $40 for a set of four. I own the Pinot Noir set and love them.
