My girlfriends parents enjoy drinking wine, but what they usually buy is the cheap stuff in a box. For X-Mas I wanted to get them something a little nicer. I know they like lighter sweet wines, usually white or blush. I ended up buying them a German Riesling. This is what is on the bottle.

1997 Franz Kunstler (umlaut)
Rheingau
Hochheimer Reichestal
Riesling Kabinett
11.5% by vol
Paid about $23 for it.
Do you think it will be something they will enjoy? I assume, like with other Rieslings, it would be good with fresh fruit, light cheeses, or cheesecake??

I, for one, would love it. It they don't, send it here.

You did just fine, DM. For the cheeses, both Edamer (Edam) and young Gouda work very well with Rheingau.

97 was a good vintage as well. $23 for a Kabinett is pretty steep though -- Spatleses are usually in that range, or cheaper.

well they popped it while I was at their place that evening. They seemed to like it. I did too. I was surprised to see bubbles though?! Their presence and the taste (kind of) made the wine resemble champagne.
