Hello,
I'll be honest: I've never had wine before. I am having a dinner party, serving beef tenderloins, and I was wondering how much wine does one normally have on hand per person? How many ounces do you serve in one glass? Also, any suggestions of what type of wine to serve with this meal? Thank you so much.

Hi Crleslie, and welcome to the Wine Board. It depends on how serious your guests are about wine. If they are regular consumers, one bottle for every two. If just occasional drinkers, one for every four. For your tenderloins, recommend a soft cabernet savignon, such as L.M. Martini's California for around $10.

Welcome crleslie. Beef tenderloins calls for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Shiraz. An average glass of wine is 5 ounces and in my experience, party animal that I am [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img], figure on 3-4 glasses per person. Don't know your attendance number or price point but here are some suggestions on reds.
'97 Gallo Sonoma Cabernet $10
'98 Columbia Crest "Grand Estates" Cab or Merlot $10
'99 Blackstone Merlot $10
'99 Bogle Merlot $10
'98 Rosemount "Hill of Gold" Cabernet $15
'97 Sebastiani Sonoma Cab $16

Cabernet should be served at around 65 degrees F. The best wine store in California is Wine Expo at 2933 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, 310-828-4428. If Roberto can't help you for some reason, he will tell you where to go.
