Hi I have been in the food and beverage industry for 20 years. I am looking for a new job and most recruiters want to know what my wine knowledge is.Is there a website where I can take a test to give me some kind of rating? thanks for your help

Instead of websites, I would suggest that the best places to go visit are books. Some suggestions include wines for dummies, the wine bible, and many more that you will see already listed in this board ( a quick search will list them all).

If you still want to go to sites (free ones I'm assuming), I would suggest www.wineanorak.com, the BBR www.bbr.com site is also interesting but more cursory in nature and of course you could learn a lot from this site either by reading past posts or more importantly as your wine knowledge grows, to keep up and in practice with sites like this one.

Hi DK 08 and welcome to the board. The most important thing in wine knowledge I know of is you're experience in tasting and cataloging wines. Wine knowledge isn't like math, history, or english but the accumulation of the many wines you catalogue in your memory banks and the ability to express the flavors expressed in those lovely beverages. Unlike most liquids, wines are so diverse that there is no known way to catalogue them except thru personal experience. Hopefully you've been accumulating this knowledge the last 20 years. WW

I think what he/she's looking for is not a place to gain knowledge about wine, but some sort of credentials or certification to display wine knowledge in a job search. To my knowledge, many folks in the industry use and respect the WSET coursework and certification. It costs a bit, but you may be able to gain that back quickly in salary depending upon how it improves the type of position you can get in the industry. Also, you may be able to test out of the beginner level courses and begin at the intermediate level, depending upon your prior knowledge.
