Can anyone tell me if I should open and taste the bottle I have of;
Cru Bougeouis, Chateau Lioner, Listrac Medoc 1978, Pierre Bosq. (Detail taken exactly from the label)
Thanks,
Richard

If it has been cellared properly it maybe. Open it and find out. It will not kill you but may taste bad. Smell it first and if it is moldy and vinagery smelling I wouldn't taste it but hey I might anyway just out of curiosity.

A 29 year old Listrac? I'd say it's most likely long dead. The better ones are usually good for about ten years.

Hey, thanks a lot for your kind responses. Perhaps we will chance it this Christmas then. Let you know what happens.
Happy Christmas All

Hi, thanks for all your advice and comments everyone.
We opened it on Christmas Day.
The cork was moldy on the top and crumbled when pulled.
The wine itself looked clear and had a tawny tinge to it.
The bouquet was rich with wood and fruit.
Tasting was great fun, stronger than usual flavours coming through. Very heady. No vinegar or mold present although some tiny suspicion all was not right.
We decided not to drink it fully as we felt at least one of us would have Christmas dinner in A&E.
Worth doing this. Thanks again and we hope you had a good Christmas and have a happy new year.
