Hi Shade, and welcome to the Wine Board. Look for the wide distributed Las rocas de San Alejandro Grarnacha. It runs more or less than $10, but is dry and delicious.

Hi D-shade,

Is your Dad trying to like red wines? I'm just curious as to why you would by a white wine drinker red wine.

I think a nice, basic bottle that is easy for a white wine drinker to drink is Pinot Noir.

Villa Mt. Eden is really nice and won't break the bank.

As you know there are many price levels of wine. Can you tell us who much you want to spend? There are a lot of nice little wines for under $15.00 and some great wines that are pricey.

Little more info please!

The thing was my dad went to a winery with a friend of his, and he had some red wine that he actually liked it. He always thought that red wines tasted fruity and he doesn't like fruity drinks. But I guess the one he drank was to his liking and bought a bottle. If I knew what bottle he bought I would get him that but I didn't see the bottle.

Also my dad asked me to find him a good red wine but since I don't drink too often I really don't know what to get him.
The only wine I bought and drank was merlot, and even that I didn't pick out I just paid for it.

as for price wise I was thinking up to $40
being cheaper would be better for me though

but if there are a few at $15 i could prob get him 2 of them so he can find one he really likes.

thanks for all the help

You could get him a few bottles and make it a global theme.

Shiraz from Australia, Cab from California and Chianti from Italy.

None of these will be overtly fruity.

Here in Chicago for just under $15 you can get:

Beringer Napa Cabernet
Chateau St. Jean Cabernet
Rodney Strong Cabernet

Penfolds Hyland Shiraz
Peter Lehman Shiraz
Greg Norman Limestone Shiraz

Borgo Scopetto Chianti
Castello Banfi Chianti Classico Reserva
Castello Monsanto Chianti Classico Reserva

You can have a lot of fun with it and he will too! You can also print out the history of the wine and food pairings. All found on the net.

Hope that helps!
