I was invited to dinner at a friend's house, and I would like to show my appreciation by bringing a bottle of wine. The meal will be vegetarian, but I know he drinks red wine. I know nothing about selecting wines, and I don't want to give him something awful. Any suggestions within a moderate price range?

You'll maybe like to show up with a Merlot wine, this is a soft wine that goes with vegetable meals. Try to get a 1997 or 1998 bottle because it's difficult to storage, I had a 1996 bottle and it was terrible. There are a french wine Côte d'Or which is a coupage (merge or blend), it's quite affordable (5-7 dlls) and easy avalaible and soft enought to go with any vegetable meal.

I vote for Pinot Noir...Meridian is a popular brand, reasonably priced and very good.
