Serving the family Sunday dinner. What would go best? (I'll sneak a sip...)

- hotwine - 10-20-2008

Georgie, have been enjoying the Avalon Napa cab the last few days with potroast. $13.99 at World Market. (Had one tonight, too, with leftovers.)

- TheEngineer - 10-20-2008

I kinda like a red Burgundy or a Pinot with a roast. Cabs are good too as are bordeaux's if they are on the less heavy side.

- Innkeeper - 10-21-2008

2007 Cono Sur, Pinot Noir, Chile ($9.99 Whole Foods).

- Georgie - 10-22-2008

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll let you know what we have.

- mrdutton - 11-19-2008

Next time you do a pot roast, buy the wine you will be drinking with the meal ahead of time.

Add some of the wine to the pot instead of water. (I just pour until I think its right, then I drink the remaining amount while cooking - chef's privledge you know!!)

Yum!!

Who be the 2 strangers showing up on the same thread on the same day? Shiver me timbers it be Georgie-Love and the Misser-D. Glad someone is active as I wont be until the end of the month. Good seeing you're still thinking of us D-Man! I'll give you a call before we head to Rocky Point. WW

Pinot Noir or a nice Cru Beaujolais for pot roast in my home.

Just thought I'd drop by to make WW even happier...

Have any of you seen my latest projects?

Idiot's Guide to Starting and Running a Winery is released, and this next one is my baby. The start of a poster series.

I'm hoping I can get wines.com to offer it.

Foodie,
The poster is impressive but I couldn't read the text (too small.) I attended a Dead Sea Scroll dinner last night (to coincide with museum exhibit in Raleigh) Dr. Carol Meyers spoke about the diet of the Palestine area at the time with wine being more prevalent than water but often diluted with water. Her husband, Dr. Eric Meyers spoke about the Quomran community. They are both archaeologists and he heads the Graduate Program of Religion at Duke. At one archaeological site in North Galilee they found a storage room with sixteen jars somewhat intact and many of them contained charred remains of grains, legumes or walnuts.

Yeah, WOW. It's hard to get the thing into a screen--it's 20 x 30 inches, so it is legible in real life!

The diet in Palestine always--always included wine, until after the 7th century, of course...

Sure now that it's getting close to Xmas ebberbodie be dropping outta' the woodwork hoping to have the Xmas fairy leave some juice under their pillow. Foodster, I've seen some of your posts on the other board . You really do like a good argument done' youse? WW

- TheEngineer - 11-20-2008

Actually I imagine Foodie speaking with an absolutely deadpan voice and face to show not inflection, no tone, etc. This to avoid any notion of favoritism, preference, etc, and just keep on the straight and narrow...like is posts on the FL versus Germany wines.

- winoweenie - 11-20-2008

And looking into their eyes with the same intensity as Brian Urlacher does just 'afore him tears off his left leg. WW

- Thomas - 11-20-2008

You guys must be reading my mail.

Engineer, did you like the way the geeks over on ebob couldn't let the Riesling results speak for themselves?

Blind tastings are a marvel, but wine geeks like that bunch are an even greater marvel.

As WW learned a long time ago: with those people, it's not about the wine; it's about them!

But where else can I get such great fodder for my contrarian blog entries?

Deadpan? Moi? My face is an open book...

- winoweenie - 11-20-2008

Everytime I need a good laugh I go over and lurk for a 1/2 hour or so. I always end up having to bite my keyboard to keep from speaaking up and kicking their dumb patooties. I haven't read so much garbage since Waste Management tried their takeover of Allied Waste products. WW

- wondersofwine - 11-20-2008

Like your garbage analogy WW!

- Georgie - 11-20-2008

As it turned out, nobody wanted wine with dinner. (I was the real wino in the family and now I'm just about forbidden, so....)But thanks for all the good advice! I'll remember it for next time.

- Thomas - 11-20-2008

Georgie,

It's so hard to take: I've been sick with a head cold and have had no wine with dinner. For some reason, I can't seem to enjoy the food at all...

- winoweenie - 11-22-2008

Foodster I'm surprised you haven't jumped in wif' both feet on the idiot who's questioning the winemakers about their pinots and the addition of Syrah. Goes to prove some people should never be taught to read. Adam Lee and Brian Loring plus others have done everthing but hit him over the head with facts and he knows more than any of them about marketing. HOLY_MACKERALINI!!!! WW

- Thomas - 11-22-2008

WW, I've sworn off those boards for now. Doctor says my blood pressure rises every time he mentions a few names that I gave him to use for the test...

If there's one thing certain in this life, it's the definition of wine geek: Knowitall!

With those guys, it ain't about the wine; it's about their egos.
