i would like suggestions on a nice wine, not associated with food other than snack-style desserts that would be good for me and my girlfriend. (Chocolates/strawberries/that sort)
I perfer reds, she perfers whites (she wins) so if you can toss out any white wine suggestions that would be great. price isn't really an option as long as it isn't horrendous for my college self ($50 US max +/- 5)

actually, it could be drank solo, no desert, also...so if you'd give a different suggestion for that, please share =)

Hi Toaster, and welcome to the Wine Board. Whether red or white, for your purposes a dessert wine is in order. Be advised that white dessert wines typically are twice as expensive as red ones. You might mention to girl person, that all dessert wines are sweet. I think the best value in a white dessert wine is Bonny Doon's, Muscat Vin de Glaciere. It runs around $17.00 for a 375 ml bottle. For a red, look for a Port. You can get a whole bottle starting at or below the price of the Bonny Doon.

either of these, how are they stored? out in the open? chilled? should i wait until the night of to buy, or just get it today and it sits fine?

They will be on the shelf in a special section of the wine store. Before serving, they should be chilled. You could store in the fridge for a couple of days, or just leave them on the counter, and chill in fridge for a few hours. Once opened and not finished, you should recork them and put them back in the fridge. Drink up within a week or so.

How a bout some Bonny Doon Framboise? Delicious raspberry that with chocolate is the essence of seduction. (I stole that phrase from the web site). Also around $10 for a .375 bottle...very affordable on a college budget.
