I have a friend who thinks she likes red wine. But, to her, the wine is too bitter so she actually pours some Coka Cola in it to sweeten it. Any ideas about a sweeter red wine? Does alchohol content relate to sweet or bitter?

Hi Hardy, and welcome to the Wine Board. Alcohol does not relate to bitterness in red wine. Excessive alcohol can give a sensation of heat. Tannin contibutes to bitternes. Lower tannin reds such as Beaujolais will not be bitter. For a red that is actually sweet, look for Reunite Lambrusco. It should even be avilable over there.

Domo Arigato Innkeeper. A friend recommended Beaujolais Villages Nouveau and I found a bottle. I look forward to trying it and will let you know.

Beware of the 2002 Nouveau. Any earlier one will be deader than the proverbial doornail. Look for 2001 Beaujolais Villages or some of the Cru Beaujolais from even earlier vingages.
