Cigars and Wine...SUCK!!!!! don't spoil any wine with those stinksticks, please.....

Port, cheap stuff at that, like a Whisker's Blake, and single-barrel whiskeys are best for cigars. I smoke one on occasion and trust me here - they will kill any wine.

I third, fourth and fifth the idea that wine and cigars is a baaaad combo.

I'll second Bucko on the whiskeys as alternatives to wine with stogies. Haven't found a scotch or sour mash that can handle 'em, but rye (Old Overholt) and Irish (Bushmill's) can hold their own, provided the cigar is a few cuts above the 25 cent class. I now chew 'em occasionally, rather than smoke 'em, and that makes a big difference in liquid options.

Okay, I put the proof in the pudding. I hosted a BBQ for the neighbors tonight, then the guys drifted off to the back deck and we lit up stogies with Korbel VSOP - a perfect match.

My note on the Korbel:

Korbel, Brandy, VSOP, Gold Reserve, California, $16. 90 proof. This is a nice Brandy to bridge the gap between the low-end Brandies and the finer Brandies and Cognacs. The richest flavored and darkest in color of their line. Very smooth on the palate, with honeycomb and smoky aromas and flavors. There is a touch of butterscotch and citrus on the lingering finish. 85/90.

Inexpensive spirits that went head to head with the palate killing cigars. Perfect, for us anyway.

I don't have much experience with wines yet, but I am an expert when it comes to cigars. I have yet to smoke a cigar with wine and would probably have to say that it is a bad combo. Port on the other hand complements many good cigars. I prefer Bacardi 8 rum or Disaronno amaretto when I want a good drink with my cuban cigars.
