Hello,
I have apllied for a server's position in a fine dining restaurant. One of the prerequisites is to have an extensive wine knowledge. I'm somewhat familiar with wines but definitely need to learn more. I guess, my question is what are some of the basic key informations that I need to know? What are the most important wine regions of the world? What wines go well with certain foods?etc.
Thank you in advance,

Natasha

You've asked a giant question. My suggestion to you is to purchase a couple of good wine reference books. Some recommendations are: "Wine for Dummies," "Wine Tasting Made Simple" and "Wine Buying Guide for Everyone" (both by Andrea Immer) and "The Wine Bible" by McNeil-Fife. These will give you a lot of fine basic information, but there's no way that you can acquire an "extensive knowledge of wine" in a hurry. Good luck. Oh, and excuse me, a belated welcome to the board!
