- Karmin - 04-16-2003 Hi, I need some help picking a bottle of wine for my parents weeding aniversary. I have no idea on wine (i'm a beer girl). I'm after an Australian Red up to around $70. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers K. - winoweenie - 04-17-2003 Hi Karmin and welcome to the board. If you live in or near Albuquerque bring it on down to Quarters and buy them a nice Penfolds "Bin 707" Cabernet. And congrats to the folks. Anniversary? WW - stevebody - 04-17-2003 Nothing AT ALL against Penfold's wines - they're great and probably the most readily available of the Aussie fine wines - but there are an awful lot of really wonderful upper-tier Aussies, and not just Shiraz. Chateau Tahbilk has a bottling produced from the oldest Shiraz vines in the country, planted in 1864 or something like that. It's one of the most amazing wines I've ever tasted, like a really great Barolo in size and character. Maybe THE best wine I've ever tasted - certainly the most interesting - is the Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz. The range of flavors is astounding and the balance and profile are dazzling. Both of these will run about $75-$85. Ask your local wine shop steward for suggestions, too, or visit my store's website at esquin.com, here in Seattle. Being on the West Coast, we have access to a ton of interesting Aussies, including about a half dozen wines from the Grateful Palate importers that the Wine Advocate gave a perfect 100 points to. Any good wine shop on the Left Coast can locate great stuff for you. Hope this helps! - winoweenie - 04-17-2003 SB guess she must of removed her "from N.M." designation. That's why I gave her a specific. Doubt any of the wines you suggested are in the state. Spent many moons in Albuquerque and know the market fairly well. WW - Karmin - 04-21-2003 Thanks guys, I think i forgot to mention that i'm in Australia...anyways, It was really appreciated. I ended up getting the Penfolds "Bin 707" (exchange rate wasn't as pleasant as i'd like but that's the aussie dollar for you.) They said it was a nice drop. Thanks.. Cheers K. Since you're there and all... - Drew - 04-22-2003 Always serve a nice dandelion wine for a "weeding aniversary".
